Filopappou Hill
Favourite promenade for the Athenians
Aside from the Acropolis of Athens, Filopappou Hill and its monument is another must visit as you can get superb views of the Parthenon and the city.
History
In 115AD a monument was erected on the top of the hill, dedicated to the exiled Roman Prince Gaius Julius Antichus Philopappos of Commagene, a region in ancient Armenia.
The prince settled in Athens after his exile and became very much involved in religion and politics, hence the Athenians thought very highly of him–enough to erect a marble monument in his honour after his death.
Prison of Socrates
Close to the monument and very hard to find, if you’re lucky you’ll find a stone structure/cave with iron gates.
