Seasons, Festivals & Events
Blessed with diverse climate zones and a plethora of festivals and events, there’s never a bad time to visit Australia.
Climate
As a continent, Australia spans a variety of climates, from tropical to alpine. Seasons are at opposite times to those in the northern hemisphere, with winter in the middle of the year and summer at the beginning and end.
-
The tropical north is warm year-round, with two distinct seasons: dry (April to October) and wet (November to March).
-
The southern half of the country has four seasons, which are generally more distinct the further south you travel.
-
Winter in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth is generally very mild, with daytime temperatures hovering in the high teens to low 20s (Celsius). Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart and Adelaide are a bit chillier in winter, with daytime maximums in the low to mid-teens and single-digit overnight lows.
-
Summer is hot in most of the country, with temperatures commonly in the high 20s to low 40s (Celsius).
