National Portrait Gallery
Faces of a changing nation
Like a family photo album, the National Portrait Gallery commemorates many of Australia’s most prolific denizens. Some are painted, others photographed or sculpted. Together, they offer revealing insights into the country’s history, complexities and ever-evolving sense of self. With new works commissioned every year, the gallery’s expansive collection is rotated regularly.
Look out for Ah Xian’s playful ceramic sculpture of pediatrician Dr John Yu, Howard Arkley’s street-smart depiction of musician Nick Cave and Georges Antoni’s arresting photograph of fashion icon Carla Zampatti.
