Silo Art Trail

Street art in the wheat belt

Patchewollock 130144 Victoria

Salvation has come in the form of street art in Victoria’s forgotten Wimmera-Mallee wheat belt, where world-renowned artists have transformed disused grain silos into spectacular murals. To date, some dozen have been transformed on the 200km-plus trail, with more in development. Featured artists include prolific Australians Guido Van Helten, Rone and Smug, and Russian Julia Volchkova, all inspired by the region’s unique characters, history and wildlife.

If you’re heading up from Melbourne, consider starting the trail in Rupanyup and ending it in Nullawil. And while it’s possible to drive the entire route in a few hours, it’s worth breaking up the trip with an overnight stay in Hopetoun. Here, slumber options include architect-designed silo conversions at Mallee Bush Retreat.
