South Bank Parklands
Subtropical urban oasis
This shady, sprawling riverside park is a justifiable hit with locals and visitors alike. Bring your swimsuit to cool off at artificial, lagoon-style Streets Beach, complete with sandy banks, tropical palms and a dedicated kids’ section.
The park’s Nepalese Peace Pagoda was handcrafted by 160 Nepalese families. A replica of Kathamandu’s Pashupatinath Temple, the building was commissioned for Brisbane’s World Expo, held on this site in 1988.
On Friday nights and through the weekend, Stanley St Plaza hosts Collective Markets, where stall holders sell locally designed jewellery, leather goods, clothes and more.
