Salamanca Place and Market
Local produce & crafts in a historical setting
Flanked by some of Australia’s oldest surviving buildings, Salamanca Place is one of Hobart’s most photogenic precincts. Weave your way in and out of its sandstone Georgian warehouses, dating back to the 1830s and once directly on the waterfront. Now housing boutiques, galleries, eateries and bars, the buildings create a gorgeous backdrop for the city’s wonderfully atmospheric Salamanca Market.
Held every Saturday, the market’s hundreds of stalls sell everything from locally made ceramics, glassware and jewellery, to organic island produce and artisan spirits.
Salamanca Place is also home to the Salamanca Arts Centre, a dynamic hub of performance spaces, galleries and studios. Directly south of the precinct is the historic neighbourhood of Battery Point, worth a stroll for its pretty heritage streetscapes, cafes and boutiques.
