Jasper Park Lodge
Jasper's flagship luxury: cabins & dining (b,l,d; $$$)
This collection of luxury log cabins on the attractive shores of Lac Beauvert might remind of a summer camp, but at least it blends in well with its surroundings, unlike the region’s other flagship hotels: Chateau Lake Louise and the Banff Springs Hotel.
Inside, the cabins are flamboyantly furnished and include grandiose stone fireplaces. Room rates often drop by a third in winter and ski packages for Marmot Basin can be particularly good-value.
The cabins fan out from an airy main lodge that’s replete with facilities, an underground mall, large lounges and several bars and restaurants. These include the small basic Oka Sushi and the cheerful Tent City Pub. A clear notch above these, the Moose’s Nook serves local mountain fare, which generally includes the excellent whisky-soaked salmon and, occasionally, musk ox (entrées around $35).
