Kimberley & Around
The town of Kimberley is well set up for visitors as it's actively luring people here since the 1970s, when a decline in mining – then its former economic backbone – led the place to transform itself into a faintly absurd Bavarian-style village.
This is where British Columbia meets Bavaria.
The kitsch in this outpost of dirndls and lederhosen now extends to fire hydrants, painted with the town’s jovial mascot “Happy Hans”, and a massive cuckoo clock from which he springs at the drop of a coin – all a quirky, good-humored backdrop for its friendly pedestrian core.
