Moonraker Trails
Varied cross-country MTB trails: 50km/moderate
The Moonraker Trails just west of Golden have been built by locals in recent years to produce a superb 50km network of mountain bike trails. Huge climbs are absent but ups and downs frequent and the resulting singletrack trails are great fun to ride.
Highlights are sections along the rim of steep-sided Canyon Creek at the southern end. But otherwise there’s very little in it: make up your loops as you go, you can’t go wrong.
But bring bug repellent – the mosquitoes can be terrible.
Start
The trail system can readily be ridden from downtown Golden, but otherwise has two main access points: the end of McBeath Road off Hwy 95 south of town and off the signposted road to Kicking Horse Resort. With the help of the free mountain biking map from the Golden Visitor Info none are hard to find.
