The Icefield Centre
Columbia Icefield views & info
This extremely busy centre provides a great viewpoint for the The Athabasca Glacier, the most prominent glacier of the Columbia Icefield. Covering some 325km2, the icefield is the largest single block of ice and snow in the whole Rockies, and the largest glacial area in the northern hemisphere outside the Arctic Circle.
You can learn all about the icefield in the centre’s exhibition hall and about the Castleguard Caves, which finish below the ice here. Canada’s largest cave system, it has 20km of surveyed passages but isn't open to the public.
