Melissa’s
All-Canadian steakhouse & sportsbar (b,d,l; $$)
Though a bit off the beaten track, Melissa’s is worth seeking out for standard Canadian fare that’s good and well-priced enough to ensure the restaurant’s been in business here since 1978.
Best for big breakfasts; salads and burgers for lunch and superb mignon steaks for dinner.
Once inside the mock-half-timbered building look out for evidence of the log cabin at its core and check out the good upstairs sports bar, Mel’s. It’s great for a leisurely drink during the day, screens most major sports events and can get raucous after dark. Inexpensive daily specials mean you can usually fill up on bar food pretty inexpensively.
