Trader Jacks
Iconic waterfront spot in Avarua (l,d; $$)
Trader Jack’s is an institution in Avarua that is soooo waterfront that its been damaged and closed down by cyclones on three occasions since opening in 1986. Former Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Henry was known to refer to this place as “the Cook Islands’ other parliament”.
And it would be a shame to miss it! Take drinks and a casual meal under the umbrellas of the lower level’s Vaka Bar, or head up the few steps and inside for the more extensive restaurant menu.
There’s often live music on Friday & Saturday nights, making Trader Jack’s an extremely fun place to hang out.
