Pazin
Gorge town
Istria’s administrative capital Pazin nestles in a bowl of hills in the centre of the peninsula. The centre of town huddles around the edge of the deep Pazin Gorge (Pazinska jama), where the River Fojba emerges from limestone cliffs.
A nature trail leads down into the gorge from its southern lip; there is also a zip-line that provides an exhilarating ride from one side of the gorge to another. Overlooking the gorge is Pazin Castle, home to the Istria Ethnographic Museum’s absorbing display of local costumes and crafts.
Pazin’s tourist office is at the centre of town at Velog Jože 1 (this entry’s map location).
By train: Pazin’s train station, a short walk uphill from the centre, is served by 6-8 daily trains from Pula.
By bus: There are several daily buses to Pazin from Pula, Rovinj and Poreč.
By car: Pazin lies just off the main highway from Pula to Rijeka & Zagreb
