Wings Monument, Podgora
Partisan Navy Monument
Something that most travellers notice when bowling down the Magistrala or Adriatic highway is the graceful two-pronged structure that rises above the coastal resort of Podgora.
Looking like a pair of seagull wings, it commemorates the formation of a Partisan naval detachment here in 1943.
Designed by Rajko Radović in 1962, it’s one of the earliest abstract-style war memorials to be built in former Yugoslavia, and is well worth a brief stop-off to see.
