Lastovo
A compact hump of land barely 7km across, the island of Lastovo lies 3-4 hours from the mainland by ferry and is, as a consequence, bypassed by tourists doing a quick tour of the Adriatic.
Once home to a Yugoslav army base, the island was closed to foreign visitors until 1989 and was never earmarked for major tourist development. Long a favourite with domestic travellers eager for peace, quiet and pristine nature, Lastovo is the perfect venue for a rustic island holiday.
Attractive Lastovo Town is within walking distance of numerous inviting coves, including Lučica, Sveti Mihovil and the fishing-harbour settlement of Zaklopatica - although the true beauty of Lastovo lies in following the island’s paths and discovering its semi-hidden places for yourself.
There is a tourist office in Lastovo Town and a seasonally open info kiosk in the ferry port of Ubli.
By ferry: Jadrolinija operates a car ferry from Split to Ubli (calling at Vela Luka on Korčula); and a passenger-only catamaran from Split to Ubli (via Hvar and Vela Luka).
