Konoba Đuda i Mate, Vid

Frogs and eels (l,d; €€)

Right opposite the Roman archeological site of Narona, just outside Metković, Konoba Đuda i Mate is one of the best places in which to sample the distinctive cuisine of the Neretva Delta.

Slightly inland from the Adriatic coast, the area relies heavily on the frogs and eels that slither around the delta’s irrigation canals and marshes. Standout dish is frog and eel brudet, a tangy red stew served with polenta. Frogs’ legs also come cooked in several other ways, if you don’t fancy them with the spice and the eel.

There’s a cute and homely indoor dining room, and a terrace facing the reedy waterways characteristic of the region.
