Nikola Tesla Technical Museum
Science & technology
Despite old-school presentation and a few dimly-lit halls, it’s difficult not to be charmed by the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum (Tehnički muzej Nikola Tesla), a rambling collection of machines and contraptions throughout the ages. Whether you’re interested in rockets, cameras, computers or old typewriters, you’re sure to find something of interest in here somewhere.
The central hall holds a fascinating display of planes, trains and automobiles, while an upstairs section on space flight features models of the pioneering craft launched by the USA and its Soviet Cold-War rival.
There is of course a small department devoted to Nikola Tesla, the prolific American inventor of Serbian-Croatian origin who developed alternating current, radio waves, x-rays and much more besides.
Extra content (accessible at particular times - see museum website for information) includes a planetarium, a recreated section of a mine, a mini World War II submarine, and - most popular of all - a 20-minute demonstration of some of Tesla’s experiments.
