RAMM
A fun, free, imaginative museum
The Royal Albert Memorial Museum – or RAMM for short – is one of the south west’s best museums. Creative displays, impressive gallery spaces, a good cafe and lots of activities for kids make it a great – and free – day out.
Highlights
Display highlights include a carved caribou antler map of the Arctic coast, amphora from Roman Exeter, a whale skeleton and Gerald – a much-loved, 5m–tall giraffe, who was felled by a big game hunter in 1901.
Collections
The local archaeology, world cultures and natural sciences collections are renowned. Artworks include pieces by Thomas Gainsborough, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Stanhope Forbes and Terry Frost.
