Salcombe
Yachts, beaches & million-pound homes
On a sunny day, Salcombe is heart-stoppingly beautiful. Houses flow down hillsides to golden beaches framing a vivid blue estuary. Boats criss-cross the waters. Inevitably houses prices are astronomic and locals warn there are far too many holiday homes.
The Town
But the town’s undoubted charm remains. Narrow lanes wind beside the water. Smart clothing boutiques, artisan food producers and cool cafes abound. Look out for locally-made Salcombe Dairy Ice-cream and Salcombe Gin.
Beaches & Ferry Rides
The East Portlemouth Ferry regularly makes the 10 minute trip across the estuary, where – at low tide – a strip of sandy beach emerges. At high tide you can also walk along a path from the ferry to pretty Mill Bay.
