Merrivale Stone Row Walk

Stroll beside prehistoric remains (1 mile)

Merrivale 2 stone row

Merivale has some of Dartmoor’s most impressive and accessible prehistoric monuments. What’s more this site just outside Princetown delivers an unusual range of remains all in one spot.

From the parking lay-by just east of Merrivale Bridge, walk south (away from the road) for about 150 metres until you come across two, parallel stone rows. The longest one is 260m long – walk up it, taking in the scale of the efforts to build it.

Head back to where you joined the stone row at its western end. Some 100m southeast of that you’ll encounter a small stone circle with 11 stones. Walk 40m south of that and you’ll find a 3m-high menhir, or solitary standing stone.

From there it’s a short walk back to the lay-by.
