Mevagissey

Charming historic fishing port

Mevagissey Harbour

The tangle of cottages that tumble down to Mevagissey’s twin harbours make the port pretty – as do the brightly-coloured fishing vessels tied up alongside. It’s an appealing place to while away a day or visit after the Lost Gardens of Heligan, just three miles away.

Mevagissey is famous as a fishing port with a wealth of scallops, mackerel, crab and lobster landed daily. No surprise then that the town is also renowned for its fine seafood restaurants.

Mevagissey Harbour

The port can trace its history back to the early 1300s. Those centuries spring to life in the Mevagissey Museum. The tiny, harbour-side Mevagissey Aquarium gives you close-up views of the creatures just below the waves.

The Mevagissey to Fowey ferry connects the two historic ports. Between April and September it normally makes the 40 minute trip several times a day (adult/child return £15/8).
