Kent's Cavern
Prowl around the caves of hyenas & bears
Heading underground at Kent’s Cavern sees you exploring a 400 million year-old labyrinth of caves. You’ll hear stories of Stone Age inhabitants and extinct Ice Age animals.
The beautifully-lit chambers and tunnels here constitute one of Europe’s most important Stone Age sites. A jawbone found at Kent’s Cavern is up to 44,000 years old – making it north-west Europe’s oldest human fossil.
Guides lead you from the Vestibule Chamber and into the stalagmites-packed Rockies Chamber, before heading through the Cave of Inscriptions and the Labyrinth.
Along the way you’ll see evidence of the Stone Age tools and bones found here – belonging to woolly mammoths, cave bears, hyenas and lions.
