Pencarrow
Exquisite Georgian stately home
Visiting Pencarrow feels a bit like wandering onto the set of a costume drama. The creamy-white Georgian house is awash with ornate panelling, rococo ceilings and sweeping stone staircases. It also has gorgeous grounds.
The estate has been the family home of the Molesworth-St Aubyns since 1500. Despite the grandeur, the house has a beautifully lived-in feel – guided tours reveal family photos on the dressers, marble busts wearing top hats and peacocks wandering around outside.
Parts of the grounds are Grade II listed and feature landscaped terraces, a sunken Italian Garden and bluebell woods. There’s even an Iron Age Fort part way down the mile-long drive.
The Peacock Café dishes up locally-sourced lunches and tasty cakes in a vaulted dining room or at tables dotted around the lawns.
