Vayrac

A great base for touring the Quercy

The small town of Vayrac is located in the north of Quercy in the valley of the river Dordogne and its main claim to fame is that it is adjacent to the Puy d’Issolud where the Gauls had their fateful clash with the legions of Julius Caesar at the battle of Uxellodunum.

A very pleasant town in its own right with lots of interesting buildings, it is also a great base from which to explore the northern Quercy. Carennac, Creysse, Gluges and Martel are all close by and the world famous site of Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac are only a little further.

While you are here don’t miss the church of St-Martin rebuilt after the Hundred Years’ War or the Musée d’Uxellodunum where you can learn all about the last stand of the Gauls.
