House of wines in a former House of God
The Maison des Vins can be found in the former Couvent des Récollets just off the Quai Salvette in the historic centre of Bergerac.
This beautiful old building is the perfect setting for an organisation devoted to the production of fine wines. As you enter from the Cloisters there is an audio-visual presentation called the “Wine Journey” about the surrounding vineyards where you can learn about the thirteen local wine appellations. These include Monbazillac, Montravel, Pécharmant, Côtes de Bergerac and Saussignac. This is followed by a wine tasting session in the laboratory with information about aromas and tactile sensations.
From the window of the Great Hall on the first floor there is a fine view of the Monbazillac vineyards.
