Shops & Shopping

Sarlat Market

If you come to the Dordogne looking for boutiques and designer outlets you’ll be disappointed! Nevertheless, all the towns have a good variety of shops selling everyday items so you'll pretty much be able to buy what you need.

All the major centres have at least one good sized supermarket, e.g. there is a Carrefour and a Casino at both Sarlat and Périgueux and plenty of small supermarkets elsewhere.

However, the real joy of shopping here is discovering one of the colourful produce markets which take place weekly, or even twice weekly, in all towns and villages.

Where relevant, the market day is mentioned in each town entry, but you'll find one of the best in Sarlat which takes place on Wednesday and Saturday morning.

Sarlat Market

Arguably the best market in France
