St John’s Eve
Throughout Estonia, June 23/24
Originally the last chance for a knees-up before the hard work of the harvesting season began, St John’s Day (Jaanipäev) is still celebrated with true hedonistic abandon.
Estonians gather with family and friends on June 23 and spend the night drinking and carousing, staying up long enough to greet the sunrise on the longest day of the year.
