Via Domitia

The road of Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus

The Via Domitia constructed in 118 BC by Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus was the first Roman road built in Gaul, linking Italy to Cadiz in Spain via Gallia Narbonensis across what is now southern France.

The route passes through the Luberon by way of the Pont Julien linking Apt-en-Provence near Bonnieux. The modern D900 road more or less traces the route of the old road.
