Annecy
The Venice of the Alps
Annecy is the charming capital or Prefecture of the Haute-Savoie Department. Located at the Northern end of Lake Annecy and often referred to as the Venice of the Alps due to the way the Thiou Canal sweeps through the town, the Medieval buildings and the small flower decked bridges which link everything together.
Strolling the pedestrianized, arcaded streets of the Medieval Quarter is a pleasure to be savoured. Dont miss the 12th Century Palais de l’Île, once a prison but now a Museum of History or the Musée Château d’Annecy. A little out of the Medieval centre and opposite the churches of St.François de Sales and Saint-Maurice are Les Jardins de lEurope bordered by the Vassé Canal and its famous Pont des Amours.
