Mâcon & the Mâconnais
The city and wine centre of Mâcon on the River Saône is at the very south of Bourgogne and is the home of the interesting Musée des Ursulines, a former 17th Convent which displays local art, history and archaeology.
The old town and other places of interest are all to be found on the right bank of the Saône River. Whilst in Mâcon make time to check out the Maison du Bois, an ancient house in Place aux Herbes with amazing wood carvings and the nearby twin spired Medieval Cathedral of St-Vincent. The other twin spired church shown at the left of the image below is the 19th Century Romanesque Église St-Pierre.
