Nemours

Château de Nemours

Nemours is a small commune in the Seine-et-Marne Département just 17km/10.5mi south of Fontainebleau. Situated on the the banks of the pretty Loing River it is well known for its 12th century Château which was revamped during the Renaissance period and includes a tower with a conical roof on each corner as well as a tall square watchtower.

The Castle also has an archeological Museum with a some paintings and sculptures and sculptures. Anyone interested in Prehistory should visit Musée Départemental de Préhistoire d'Île-de-France also based in the town and which includes finds from the whole Île-de-France region.

Don’t miss: the walk along the banks of the River Loing. Also if you have time whilst in the area visit the nearby small towns of Grez-sur-Loing (4km) associated with the composer Frederick Delius and Moret-sur-Loing (12.5km) associated with the painters Monet, Renoir and Sisley

Medieval Festival Each year on the 1st weekend of July Nemours organises a Medieval Market, with shows and street entertaiment for the whole family.
