Tsui Wah
Hong Kong comfort food (b,l,d; $)
Are you craving a hot dog, Japanese udon noodles, or fried noodles in the middle of the night? Chances are there’s a Tsui Wah near you, as this popular chain has numerous branches on both sides of the harbor, each with its own character and some open 24 hours.
Established in 1967 as a tea cafe and serving what could be called Hong Kong comfort food, Tsui Wah is the local equivalent of a diner, with the menu likely to be secured under plastic sheeting on the table and strangers sharing your table during peak dining hours. You might want to start by ordering a local favorite–milk tea–and follow it with sizzling king prawns with fried noodles, a jumbo frankfurter, Malaysian beef brisket curry with rice, crispy bun served with sweet condensed milk, Hainanese chicken rice or chicken wings with a sweet soy sauce.
This is a great place to rub elbows with the locals. Check its website for branch locations. No credit cards accepted.
