Irwin Gardens Columbus
European Charm
The two-acre Irwin Gardens, which date back to 1910, are part of the historic Irwin Mansion now an inn and just a few steps from the historic downtown.
The beautiful gardens, based on those found at the Casa degli Innamorati in Pompeii, Italy, are free and open to the public.
The elegant and formal plantings, including wisterias that are more than 100 years old, surround steps, fountains, sunken garden, a long reflecting pool and sculptures.
A statue under the center arch of the garden house was replicated from a lakeside structure at the Villa of Hadrian at Tivoli, Italy. Pompeian murals accent the garden house. A tall brick wall is rounded like that of 16th-century gardens in Mantua, Italy
