Nashville
Country Charm
Brown County's most famed town is Nashville, which boasts over 120 restaurants, art galleries, studios and shops. Its name, originally Jacksonburg, was changed in the early 1800s to Nashville in honor of the birthplace of the town’s founder, whose house, built in the 1830s is still standing.
Learn the history of Nashville by taking a tour of the town’s historic sites including the Pioneer Village Museum which has a blacksmith shop, old log jail and an early doctor's office all run by the Brown County Historical Society. Be sure to stop by the society and browse through local history as well.
Nashville House, one of the oldest restaurants in the state, has reopened again after a short hiatus and is again serving their famous fried chicken, fried biscuits, and house-made apple butter. The restaurant first opened in 1927 and now has been family owned for three generations.
