Stone Head
Historic Beauty
Stone Head, a unique monument originally erected back in 1851 by a taxpayer in lieu of paying taxes, has stood sentinel for almost more than 170 years.
The maker, a painted stone head posted on top on a block of stone, serves as a road sign and is where this curving country byway branches left towards Story, a charming (albeit with a very small village population of four, three horses, several dogs, and a couple of cats) which is the best example of pre-Civil War architect in the state as well as home to the Story Inn, an award winning restaurant and bed and breakfast and left towards Bellsville Pike and the hamlet of Pikes Peak.
The House at Stonehead, like most places here has a history having been built in 1891 and a homestead even further back starting in 1844.
Now available for short term rentals under, the House At Stone Head is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is surrounded by acres of lush gardens including 5.2 acres of the property that now are the Stone Head Preserve hiking trails, ponds, and the remnants of an old mill.
