Tōkyō Station 東京駅 & Around

Imperial Palace, Marunouchi, Nihombashi & more

Marunouchi

Tōkyō Station is one of Japan's busiest railway stations, the terminal of multiple shinkansen lines and is on the JR Yamanote loop line that I recommend for city orientation.

On the Marunouchi (western) side of the station is a prominent red brick building, which dates from 1914 and was recently renovated to its pre-war appearance.

The major Marunouchi business district, home to many of Japan's most powerful companies, sits between the station and Tōkyō Imperial Palace.

Imperial Palace

The current Imperial Palace (Kōkyo) is on the former site of Edo Castle, surrounded by moats and massive stone walls and is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family.
