Hostels & Backpackers ホステル
Cheap dorm-style accommodation
Cheap, budget travel is alive and well in Japan, so if you’re okay with the bare essentials, there are hostels and backpackers all over the country in which to lay your head for very little coin.
Expect shared mixed or gender-segregated dorms (bunk-beds or futon), shared toilet and bathroom facilities, and possibly a shared kitchen with cooking facilities. There will generally be free wi-fi, lockers and a common room with a TV.
Some places may have curfews and lock-out periods between 10am and 4pm.
Hostelworld is good for bookings all over Japan.
Japan Youth Hostels also has places all over the country.
Expect to pay between ¥2000 and ¥4500 per person per night.
