Hina Matsuri 雛祭り

Girls’ Day / Doll Festival (3 Mar)

Hina-Matsuri

Girls’ Day is celebrated on 3 March throughout Japan, with families wishing their daughters a successful and happy life.

Public spaces and homes are decorated with red platforms used to display ornamental dolls (hina-ningyō) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional dress of the Heian period.

The equivalent Boys’ Day is also known as Children’s Day and celebrated on 5 May.
