Shichi-go-san (7-5-3) 七五三

To celebrate the growth of children (15 Nov)

7 5 3 festival

Held throughout Japan annually, this festival is for 3- and 7-year-old girls & 5-year-old boys, to celebrate the growth and well-being of young children.

With odd numbers being lucky in Japan, parents dress their children in traditional kimono - many for the first time - and head to local Shintō shrines to pray for the healthy and happy futures of the children.

Shichi-go-san is not a national holiday and is generally observed on the nearest weekend to 15 Nov.
