Sol & Huertas
The raucous heart of Madrid, the labyrinthine streets in and around Puerta del Sol and to the south of Plaza Santa Ana and around Calle Huertas are brimming full of bars, restaurants, cafés and clubs – the main attraction for visitors.
The district is still popular with Spaniards though and the area was once the literary hub of the city with many of the country's most renowned authors and playwrights residing in the barrio often referred to as Las Letras.
It is still home to a number of theatres, the Ateneo literary and scientific club, a prestigious art museum in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes and to the Spanish parliament.
