Museo Nacional de Antropología/Etnología
Offbeat anthropological museum
Once a slightly offbeat and rather eccentric museum based on the personal collection of Pedro González Velasco, the National Anthropology and Ethnography collection has recently been updated and its exhibits reorganised with the removal of the many of the human remains that were once on show.
The museum collections are divided up by continent and cover some of the cultures encountered by Spanish explorers and colonists, with exhibits including shrunken skulls from the Canary Islands and ceremonial masks from Asia.
The museum often hosts interesting temporary exhibitions.
