Plaza de España
Iconic square at the end of Gran Vía
One of the city’s most famous landmarks, Plaza de España is bordered by two iconic skyscrapers - the Edificio de España and the Torre de Madrid - both of which were built in the 1950s as Franco tried to demonstrate that Spain was becoming a modern state. A statue in honour of Cervantes is at the centre of the square which has become a popular promenade spot following a recent facelift.
