The European cemetery
Colonial & military French cemetery - المقبرة الأوروبية
The European Cemetery is a military cemetery for Free French fighters from the Second World War, and a civilian Christian cemetery, mostly for French colonialists.
The first thing you’ll see on entry is is a white obelisk commemorating the soldiers who died in Africa fighting for Free France and the Allies during the Second World War. 333 fallen fighters are buried here.
The cemetery dates from 1925 and was used by French colonialists in Marrakesh, even before the Second World War. The oldest graves are over to the left of the obelisk.
Elsewhere in the cemetery are some quite large family mausoleums. There are also more modern graves here, belonging to post-Independence European expats.
