Museo Nacional de Antropología
Anthropology Museum
The world-class Anthropology Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in Mexico’s rich history and culture.
Set aside at least several hours to soak up the vast exhibits, which include impressive sculptures of colossal Olmec heads and an ancient Aztec calendar stone. On the ground floor you’ll find 12 halls exhibiting Mexico’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic artifacts.
Take a break in the sculpture garden before moving on to the temporary exhibits upstairs. Just outside the museum don’t miss the Papantla Flyers’ high-flying ancient rainmaking ritual in which indigenous men attached by ropes twirl upside down from a 20-meter (65-foot) pole.
