Cafe Saigon

Wonderful Vietnamese flavours (l,d; $$)

Tucked down a Gay Village side-street, modern and airy Cafe Saigon persists in being a well-kept secret despite three decades of success in turning out delicious simple traditional Vietnamese dishes.

The spring rolls; sate soup; salt-and-pepper shrimps and scallops; and the lemon grass chicken with vermicelli are all hard to beat. But it’s the General Tao chicken that has the local cult following.

The prices are little high, but offset by the fact you can you can bring your own alcohol.
