Sunset Beach
Sunset Beach is the most southern beach in North Carolina. The quiet natural area includes beach houses and condos, a 14-room inn, a 500-room golf resort and a small campground. The 900-foot pier is a special place for fishing as well as for the view.
It’s not actually part of Myrtle Beach, but is an easy drive for a day trip.
Visit the town’s website for beach rules.
Sunset Beach also is home to a world-class planetarium, a few restaurants and shops and a good fall festival. It’s an official stop on the NC Birding Trail. It’s noted for such species as the wood stork, the painted bunting, the American oyster catcher or the winter sparrow.
Bird Island is a tiny spot connected and accessible only by boat, biking or walking.
