Pawleys Island
The historic resort town of Pawleys Island prides itself on its theme of “arrogantly shabby,” and it lives up to the term. One of the oldest resorts on the eastern U.S. coast, it’s 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach. The historic district is quite small with a dozen residences dating from the late 1700s and 1800s.
It’s known for its rope hammocks which were invented here in the late 1800s and its lovely small beach which is only accessible from private property. An 8-room bed and breakfast and a 1937 inn are unique beachfront seasonal rental properties along with several condos and homes.
The small commercial district along U.S. 17 features a few notable restaurants, shops and businesses.
