INTERESTS & ACTIVITIES
There’s so much to do in New Zealand. If you’ve got limited time you might focus on your main interests to make sure you’re not missing a real highlight.
For those into Hiking & Walking, while there are excellent walks throughout the country, you may want to spend more time in the lower half of the South Island - around Mt Cook, the Southern Lakes region around Queenstown and Wanaka, and Fiordland.
If you like Beaches, there are beauties in and around Auckland, plus on the east coasts of Northland, including the Bay of Islands, and the Coromandel Peninsula.
Outdoor Activities are all over, but Queenstown has the moniker “adventure capital of the world” for a reason.
Wine lovers have plenty of options, with vineyards and wineries on both islands and pretty much the length of the country. Pick your spots from our Wine Lovers’ itinerary.
For Māori Culture, you’ll want to spend time in Rotorua - plus make a trip up north to Waitangi if you find the time.
Those into Winter Sports will want to head to the Southern Lakes region of the South Island, around Queenstown and Wanaka. Alternatively, Mt Ruapehu, on the North Island, is a good option.
