Hagley Park
Massive green spaces
Created in 1855 by the Provincial Government, Hagley Park was "reserved forever as a public park, open for the recreation and enjoyment of the public."
This massive space, protected by the establishing covenant, covers 165ha and is a top place to roam, virtually right in the central city. Riccarton Rd splits the park into northern and southern halves.
Cherry trees along Harper Ave flower spectacularly in spring, while the Avon River winds its way through the park and into the city.
