Sky Stadium

Wellington's "Cake Tin"

2015_05_17_ewr-lax-akl-wlg_077

The home of the capital’s Super Rugby Hurricanes, NPC Rugby Lions and the Wellington Phoenix Soccer team, the waterfront Sky Stadium or Cake Tin, as it’s universally known, also boasts All Blacks and Blackcaps cricket tests and plays host to concerts and all sorts of other shows.

Built in 1999, the Cake Tin seats 34,500 in its distinctive yellow seats and became Sky Stadium (from Westpac Stadium) in 2020. Built on reclaimed NZ Railways land, it is within easy walking distance of Wellington Railway Station.

Out of town goal kickers beware the swirling winds of windy Wellington!
